Educational Goals and Objectives

Students are provided with outstanding learning opportunities throughout the festival as they perform for adjudicators and experience evening performances by North America’s top jazz groups and musicians.

Festival Objectives

1. To provide performance opportunities for students to display the polished products resulting from classroom music instruction.
2. To provide opportunities for growth through educational workshops, clinics and positive evaluations from professional adjudicators.
3. To provide a professional environment and format that stimulates participants to strive for excellence, and encourages participants to listen and learn cooperatively as audience members.
4. To provide opportunities for the expression of individual and group creativity.
5. To provide evening showcase concerts that offer models of excellence.
6. To recognize individual excellence by offering awards, scholarships and participation in a Student Honour Rep Band, including students from every participating school band at the festival.
7. To encourage the desire for self-improvement, the search for musical excellence and a sense of pride in accomplishments as lifelong learners.
